Hello... is there anybody out there.
Its a thing. Its “federated”. But it feels like a sticky floored frat house still waiting for the cops to show up an shut down the party.
So, my new yubikey came in and I've had a chance to play around the new yubico authenticator app. For those of you who don't know the app allows you to use store 2fa text codes in the yubikey's secure enclave. Just tap or insert the key, and you have one key for all the stored accounts.
Considering that you don't always have FIDO2/Webauthn, its a neat way to keep all your 2fa needs in one place. I likely won't use it for many accounts(have other apps I like more), but for somethings its going to rock.
Well, that's it for now. Next thing on the block is the hunt for the new car.
So, I decided to go with Protonmail. Sure they don't follow every standard to gain access to your email, but they do do a few things that are VERY nice.
Firstly, they are reasonably priced. 3.33 USD a month is more than reasonable for what I'm going to use it for.
Second, the UI/UX is actually fairly good. Setting up the domain was mostly painless, unlike Fastmail. Adding 2FA tokens was a breeze and triggered the most up to date workflow. And if I wanted to delete my account, its right there on the main account page where I can see it without hunting.
Finally, they just worked. I didn't have to fight, search, or scrounge for a reason to use it. Its good enough for the volume and that's what I need.
You can reach me at rainer@darkhallway.run.
So, I have been working on trying to setup a backup personal email on this domain. I want to be able to move between services, etc, etc. Thus far, I've narrowed it down to these three:
So, moved this domain to self hosted writefreely. Kinda nice to have it just there. More writing, lest tinkering.
Note: This was originally posted a part of collaborative horror project on reddit. IT did okay.
Oh god. Where do I start. It was just. It was just a few days ago. We were happy. Laughing. I mean, it was good, right? But now... I wish we had never met that man. Then I wouldn’t have this damn slip of paper. Then I wouldn’t remember anything. I would be just like the rest of you. I could just shrug it all off as a bad dream. But we went looking for him. And he came. And I thank him for that.

So..... How you doing? Getting by? Trying to survive? That's good. Yep. All good.
...
Okay, lets talk about server side Typescript.

So, there are are a lot of really nice microblog tools these days. But I keep coming back to write.as. Why? Why is this platform so simple to use?
Possible reasons:
The interface that you land on is about getting writing done. Shut up and get your thoughts out there. This is nice.
The tools seem focus on a almost Mastodon-eqsue small community setup. Find your tribe(readers) and get moving.
Its small scale so people can't find you and mock you piteously.
